Goose Creek 7/28

Postby gdub16 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 10:22 am

Well finally made it back out on the water. I hit Goose Creek right at Goose Creek Golf Coarse at rt 7. I haven't hit this area so did not know what to expect. I decided to paddle upstream a ways to explore at first is look promising as there were some deeper pool areas but for the most part water was really dead not much current. At one point I was using a spinner bait and it was pulling me upstream. So paddled up to a point were it got real sallow and appeared to close off to rocky area. I look at the area at google earth and appears I would have had to drag across some rocky area for about 50 yards so before it open up going up towards the dam. With that being said will probably not hit this area again as there are some better spots with more Action.

To the fishing now, I started off with spinner bait used it through out the morning with now luck. I also tried some weightless flukes dead sticking, walking the dog and various retrieves with no luck. So I went to X-Rap and ended up getting 13, 14, and 15 incher which is picture below. I did see 3 or 4 large carp that got my heart pumping to realized it was carp. They all gave a nice fight with nice areal's. I had almost forgot how good of fight the smallies put up compared to the Pond Large mouth been catching lately.

At one point a golf ball landed about 10 feet from and made a good splash it must have been a good 50 yards out of bounds I would suggest to the person who hit this one to give up golf and pick up fishing like I did ;)

All in all was nice to get out an paddle some new area's of Goose Creek but like I mentioned this particular area didn't offer much option, no eddies, shutes, nervous water of any sorts. Had to scrub the yak down when I got home as there was a ring of creek scum all around my Commander 120

I think that's a largemouth, but nice bass either way.

always fun to check out some new water, file it away as the conditions there might be appropriate at certain times & water levels

Aah man wasn't paying attention to what the hell I was catching I figured being in creek it was smallie and they put a hell of fight up compared to Pond LM's I had been catching. I should have known because I made this mistake in past, assuming it was smallie because it was in goose creek. Come to think of I been catching mostly LM's in Goose Creek

The X-Rap was definitely the only thing working that day. I caught the last two of three right when I had to leave. The water was only 2-3 feet where I was catching then with no real current and they were hitting on 2-3 second pause.

I had pickup a few X-Raps a while back after seeing your success with them (oubassman) from your posts and finally got to put them in action.

I got into it with a few golfers who thought I was trespassing while fishing Goosey. They believed that their association 'owned' the water and I was trespassing. I told them to call the cops and we'll work out the legal implications of me fishing in their "private-owned" waters.

Now, I believe these accidental golf ball shots that land in the water next to yak'rs are deliberate.

Was it on Goose Creek Golf portion as that is public coarse not sure why they would get bent out of shape of fishing there. There was a little tributary that ran off main creek that goes back into golf coarse was that what they were complaining about? They have signs posted there now.

If I do go back I will bring my ball retriever as there were a tone of balls that I could see. Speaking of ball retriever anyone tried using one a a lure retriever, think I might be on to something although it is little bulky to pack in Yak ;)

That is funny - "he should give up golf."

Yeah a person could wade that creek and get several trash barrels full of golf balls. Washed and sorted - they bring good money on eBay.

There are smallies in the goose, but as you said, they will be closer to chutes, rapids, nervous water. A paddle upstream to the dam would be very difficult and would require much kayak dragging and walking.

My son and I used to catch a ton of crawfish there. You're better off to fish Kephearts down and the Potomac.
