First trip in the Pro Angler

Postby jazd78 » Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:18 pm

My buddy and I went out yesterday to explore some new creeks off the ICW. It's one thing to read reports on how great a boat is, and another to experience it yourself. The PA was WAY better than expected. It has the perfect combination of size, speed, and fishability. It was low tide and we were in less than a foot of water. I pulled the mirage drive and poled in inches on water with no problem. We saw small schools of reds, trout, and black drum. Unfortunately the fish were finicky with flipper making noise nearby. The boat is very stable. I was poling and accidentally pushed too hard falling backward to the seat  the PA did it's job and kept me dry. My buddy was able to keep up with me without any problems in my tarpon. He has a wavewalker, but I was effortlessly out pacing him in my PA. This boat can really move trust me. I didn't get it slimed this outing, but it's going to be an awesome fishing boat that's for sure!

Nice, although it stinks to see lots of fish and not catch them. I'm sure it was a nice day! I did a little crappie hunt myself yesterday, but couldn't muster any with size worthy of posting on the challenge..

You'd have to give me a large bag full of money to fish out of anything other than my PA. Even better when the fish play nice

Sounds like a successful outing to me - the first few outings should always be primarily about learning your limitations in the kayak before you start focusing more on the fishing aspect.

I'm glad your experience was very pleasurable. I had the PA out Sunday on Dale Hollow and covered a lot of water effortlessly, and comfortably. The only thing that happened was one of my seat strap buckles broke so yesterday I contacted my dealer and I sure hope they will be here by this weekend. I'm sure you will slime it next time out.

This trip was mostly about getting use to the boat and reconning some shallow creeks that I have been wanting to check out. I am OFFICIALLY bit by the Hobie Bug! I feared that I would miss paddling, but being hands free, and the ability to hold my position by pedaling is priceless! The PA is Awesomeness x 2!!

x2 on the Hobie bug but mine was more out of long term health than anything - I have a shoulder condition that could be anything from bursitis to a torn labrum. Still in the process of working that part out. Switching over to a Hobie gives me the ability to stay on the water longer and be able to recover my yak at the end of the day and load it without a struggle. Of course, the Hobie being 10lbs. lighter than my previous yak also helps :D

I just went through this. Ended up being arthritis and bone spurs in the AC joint. Labrum tears and rotator cuff tears. My biggest problem was a biceps tendon problem.

I found a fantastic doc who explained labrum repair after age 40 usually yields disappointing results. Mainly because they are from long term degeneration rather than a clean tear. So he just cleaned it up. He also did a procedure where he ground down the bone spurs and arthritis. My biggest problem was the biceps tendon where it went through that AC joint.

You may have covered all of this with your docs but just letting you know I've been through it recently in case it helps. You are welcome to ask questions.

And to the original post, congrats on the first trip. Those PA's look like a bunch of fun.

I love my PA too. When I tell people it moves as fast as it does they never believe me. That is until we get one the water and they are trying catch up. Cant wait to see her slimmed. ;)
