Nice Blues at Calaveras in San Antonio

Postby djren12 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:52 pm

Started at 6am pulling about 20 shad from the boat launch then hitting the water at 7:20 with a ton of fog on the lake. Caught 14 blues but only kept 7 that ranged from 15" to 26" 2-4 lbs all caught on shad, shrimp and baby octopus all sprayed with Dead Red. Caught 8 reds that all went back since biggest was only 17" but had a blast pulling those out, funny thing was they all were caught on Shad flavored Yah Maan. Fished in about 18' of water against the rockwall to the dam then back in about 35', bite didn't turn on till water temp hit 68 deg and up. Beautiful day but wind picked up around 3 so called it day.

Sounds like a fish fry to me :) Good job.

BTW, you mention blue cats on the report but these guys look like channel cats to me. Maybe I am getting my catfish confused...

Sounds like a plan, I;m going out there again this wed 2/29 same time. I will be fishing the rock wall near the kayak launch all the way across then under the trees across the lake since they are in pre-spawn. On Sat all the guys from TKF forum under TKFSA group, a group called Caliyakkers meet there and all go fish, I havent been but now with better weather I plan to. That group also meets every 3rd wed at a bar just to meet new local fishemen and to shoot the shyt, you should come out. Go to the Texas Kayak Fishing forum and sign up then look for the TKFSA group and ask to join.
