No Glove, No Love...For Your Rod, that is...

Stik Jackets, Rod Socks, Rod Gloves....

Whatever you call it, Im looking to start transporting the yak hull down on a set of Sea Wings. And, I want to store my rods inside the yak for transportation. This way I might could take my gear on the family vehicle back home or out to the inlaws and still have room for the family inside.

What kind of sock or gloves do you use? Ive read where the Stik Jacket is too porous and lets guides through. Ive read that The Rod Glove is great, but it looks the same as the Stik Jacket.

Any issues with it "Unsheathing itself" upon removal from the kayak?

stick jackets are ok, I used them when I had my tin boat. Take a look at BPS Rod Sock, these are alot cheaper and do the job, my Pop use to use them and the BPS reel bags too, they're a better deal for the money, and do the same job.

Word of caution on the BPS version - wrap your line around the rod before you stuff the rod in the BPS one. The logo is not attached on the inside correctly on all of them, and as a result, the fabric has excess tags that snag the line when you go to remove your rod from the sock. Of course, this may have been just isolated to the set I received at Christmas, but just a word of caution. I informed the nice folks at BPS as a precaution to pass the word in case it was a design error.

Let me preface this by saying I just received my order of Rod Sox last night in the mail (3-day delivery!) so I don't have that much experience with them yet. However they do look to be top notch quality, and I had no initial problems putting rods in and and taking them out.

What I can say is we ran into the owner at the Classic (he actually came up to us and introduced himself) and he was a super nice guy! They also support several organizations benefitting wounded/disabled vets etc and expressed interest in doing the same for HOW!! I ordered several of the desert camo colored ones which automatically gives $.50 to the various charitable organizations!

And if that's not enough, I just spoke to Knot Right, and if you can wait just a little, they will be available in the HOOK 1 store "VERY SOON"!!!

Rod Glove brand and the BPS neoprene reel covers. Bungee the rods together, once they're wrapped up.

I agree. I've been using the BPS Rod Sock, with no problems (Chuck you may have a bad batch). The Rod Sox offer more protection from bumps and bruises but there is no way to attach them to the rod or reel and they end up sliding up the rod.

Once I have the socks on I use a BPS Rod Wrap to secure the rods together. All my reels are protected by BPS Reel Covers

I bought one of these with my new rod. It seems to work well and the elastic at the reel end keeps it on...I haven't had any eyes poke through yet.

I think they are all the same material. The last ones I bought were cole's rod socks off of bass boat central. He frequently puts them up for sale pretty cheap, I think I paid 5$ a piece for them last year.

I've been using the "Slix" sleeves from Gander Mtn. for a couple of years with no complaints.
