Opening day of Trout in Tioga County, PA

Postby wyd » Mon Apr 16, 2012 12:17 pm

Well me and my brother went to my uncles cabin in Germania PA right in the middle of Galeton and Wellsboro. Each is about 20 miles away.

Started our day in a hole within 7 miles of the cabin. We got to the sport and the place i fished under the bridge last year already had 5 guys in it so I had to a take above that area about 50ft away.

8am hits and those 5 guys cast away. I then took out my rod already setup with the Trout Magnet lure setup that you see videos all the time at Bass Pro. I hooked it up just like in the video. Ok so I thru my line in for the first time and BANG!!!!!!! the Trout Magnet was hit hard and caught my first trout of the day. 5 guys nothing. I thru in a 2nd time and BAM!!!! another trout, 5th cast WHAM!!!! yet another trout. Still 5 guys nothing and they where looking at me like what the hell is he using. By the end of the hour we spent I had 6 trout and lost 2 so 6 of 8 isn't too bad. Those 5 guys i think had 2 when I left.

Sometimes lures work just as advertised by the manufacture and this was one of those times. Matter of fact they worked so well for me my brother decided at a few holes to use them and caught at least 6 on the same Trout Magnet setup but he didn't use the bobber technique but instead just twitched them off the bottom and the trout went nuts on them. He was like I had these for years and never liked them or caught anything thing on them. He is rethinking and will be trying them a lot more. I actually taught my brother something as I only been trout fishing for 2 years and know nothing.

I ended up catching 10 trout overall this Saturday and my brother had about 16 but the Trout Magnet hit well. What a simple lure to use and I will be from now on. A few pics. I need to get the pic from my brother of the 18" plus Rainbow I caught. I thru back everything for another day.

What? you mean you didn't take from the 'put and take' trout?? Why, the PFBC will put your head on a pike outside of their office..

Seriously.. I like those lures as well---they even produce on crappie for me down here in the Mid-State--usually use the pink ones for crappie under a float.

Great Job..I missed both opening days here...work, and more work..

That sucks you didn't get out for trout.

Yeah the Trout Magnet was fun and super easy to use. I want to try them from Crappie at Pinchot Park and then try some of the ones I got for Small Mouth.

They work great at Pinchot for crappie---most anything pink does, or white, or chartreuse. Yup..that's the lake I fish most these days; with Marburg second...

I can't wait to kayak fish both; I've seen some decent LM coming out of Pinchot over the last few days; all taken from kayaks..

That is great on both. Last year we did terrible at Pinchot but I plan to change that this year.

We need to meet up at Pinchot some Sat or Sun for some yak fishing. :D See can reel in some bassss, crappie or at this point at Pinchot anything would be nice. Last year was really tough on my and my brother fishing their.

Would also like to go to Marburg at least once this year to. Very nice looking place from what I saw from pictures.
