Fly only outing??....central VA area

Postby flyfisher » Sun May 06, 2012 1:29 pm

I was thinking that with the recent uptick in the number of people trying out the long rod that we should set up a fly rod only outing here in the near future. It would be a good chance to meet some new people and possibly some newer long rodders can get out and learn a few things from more seasoned anglers.

I am thinking someplace with a bunch of lilly pads where we can work sub-surface and surface flies to our heart's content.....

I have a few spots in mind that would be good for as many people as could make it, with diascund reservoir being the top choice even though it does involve a lengthy paddle to and from the lilly pads....about 4 miles or so one way.

If there is some interest i can set it all up and post the details....

Good luck--that better be a nice area. :D

Tonight is the first time I noticed it was WHISKER! That makes so much more sense I've been thinking for a year, "man. I like bourbon, but this guy REALLY likes it!" I've even told friends of mine, "hey, did you see that post the Whiskey Wrangler made?"...Yeah I've even been trying to rationalize it... I thought maybe your job was to transport the casks around the distillery or something. -knobcreekman

I'd be down for learning a thing or two, as long as it's not from that goofy lookin feller named James...
But I am definitely down for this; I know I have a lot to learn, and I think doing this would definitely help me get into fly fishing for bass a lot more.

I would love to go... but one of my wings isn't working right now.
I think a fly only get together is a great idea. I wish ya'll well.

I have always thought about doing a fly only get together.

I am in as long as I don't have work on that date.

Another thing to consider about Diascund Resavoir is the parking.
The parking lot gets full fast on the weekends.

So it sounds like there is some definite interest and i am totally open to other areas.

A few other suggestions were Briery creek and bear creek lake too....

And yes, the parking at diascund does get full on the weekends but if i am paddling that far i would want to get out there early anyways :)

So i am thinking June 2nd which gives us a few weeks after the HOW tourney and a few weeks before my son's 2nd birthday party.

If this date works for most people, i will set up another thread with more details.

I am now leaning towards either briery or bear creek lake so..........votes for a location?

I'd be interested, but it would have to be a different day for me - the 2nd is when we are having my son's birthday party. Don't reschedule on my account though.
