Thanks for setting this up Jeff! Despite the highs and lows I encountered on Saturday I had a great overall experience. I'll be better prepared for my next outing on the Mattawoman. I've realized that a GPS and a machette are two things that would have saved me a lot of trouble. I'll have both on my next outing.

I posted these pics in the other thread, but here are a few of the fish I caught on this outing.

Looks good Jeff -

how far down did you guys paddle? All the way to smallwoods and the main river?

Once the grass get really established in the summer - you find clear water around the grass.

Throw a chatterbait (Black or bluegill no - flash blade) with a green pumpkin blue paca craw - those bass will key on on that! I don't like my chatterbait to have any shine, just create a disturbance. Flip it like a jig and make it pulse and shake - fish on!

Jocko,

I just picked up some bluegill colored chatter baits on Saturday. One with a silver blade and one with a gold. I've never fished one before, so I'll let you know how it goes. You need to get down here soon Jock and show me how you do things.

You can fish those silver or gold blades as they are, but I find the black or dull ones do better. I've taken a sharpy to some of mine.

Alot of guys fish them just like a flashy spinnerbait and that's fine. They also fish great like a jig. I love a medium paca craw on my chatterbait and I pitch it to a target and bring it back like a jig - maybe alittle faster - but vary the retrieve and pulse that blade. The Bass crush it!

I love the tidal potomac. I hope they do another. It was my anniversary weekend and I choose to stay married!

Busy year with work - enjoy reading all the reports!

It sounds like there's plenty of people who are interested in fishing the tidal Potomac. So pick a date that would work with your schedule and chances are we could round up some people to join us!

Love the report. Sorry that I missed this event, but my brother, nephew and neice decided to pick this weekend to come in from out of town for a visit. Family always comes first!

I'm really surprised that I've only seen one Snakehead photo from that trip. Was that it, or are people just sand-bagging? :) I thought we'd see a dozen or so, after looking at those pre-trip reports.

Looking forward to the next one. Recommend we try it in the heat of the summer. May make the bass and snakeheads both lock tighter to the cover for shade -- plus, that will put the water temps closer to the snakehead's natural range.

Thoughts?

I think it might have been just the one snakehead on Saturday. I believe we nailed 5 snakeheads the previous weekend.

The weekend before had the water temperature down 5-6 degrees which appears to have slowed down the Largemouth bite (but the snakeheads were biting). This past weekend the Largemouth bite was much better and I suspect our crew was a little more tuned to targeting them than the snakes in the grass.

List of fish we caught out of the Mattawoman:

Largemouth
Snakehead
Long Nose Gar
White Perch
Yellow Perch
Channel Catfish
Blue Catfish
