Need a REALLY long shank hook, anyone know one?

Postby Linc » Sat May 05, 2012 5:51 pm

I've searched, a lot. And I come up with some in smaller sizes, but I need at least a 3/0 - 6/0. It's for a.... well... a 'project' let's say. ;)

I've even contacted a few companies, and no go. Anything you guys can think of would help. Something I can bend a bit, so no 5x strong stuff...Best I've found is a Mustad 92611 LS in 2/0. I need at least another inch over that hook. If anyone knows someone at a manufacturer I'd be very grateful. It really doesn't even need an eye at this point in my work. BTW, almost all of the large gap worm hooks break easily when I try to manipulate them, so they are off the table.

Thanks.

Anyone that can hook me up (hah) will of course get something for your efforts.

Have you tried hooks installed on jig heads yet? The Bull Red Jig Heads from Marsh Works are Mustads.

Yes, those are just standard jig hooks, and the long shanks are about 1/2" longer than those. Blakemore makes a funky drop shot hook that if it was straight might be perfect. Waiting to hear from them.

Thanks.

If anybody 'knows a guy' at a bait company, that'd be awesome. I've heard back from Owner and Gamakatsu, but that's it.

I’m not sure if what you’re looking for exists. You may want to check out the Eagle Claw 66SS. I think they go up to 6/0 and should be fairly malleable, but the shank probably isn’t long enough for you.

I think you're right. That's why I'm hoping some hook company will make me a batch. I'm gonna keep cold calling, may get lucky.

Try Jack hooks. They are the no knot hook company that is still relatively small and they make all their hooks in house so they may be able to help you out.
