I will be back - he didn't have a huge selection of either rods or reels, but he did have a good selection (IMO) and he can order anything I might need.

Even if it costs a few dollars more, it beats the cost of gas for a minimum 40 mile round-trip to Dick's or 80 mile round-trip to either Academy Sports or Bass Pro (which are equal distance but in different direction from me :( ).

Don't laugh, but now it's time to figure out how to spool this thing properly - the first time.

Oh yes - google is my friend.

Thank you.

That video came up first, but I jumped down to read the one two hits below it.

I'd planned on watching both videos, plus the knot tying lesson from Animated Knots by Grog, before I start.

Well..I cheat with regard to Line spooling..I have a Berkeley Line Spooler I bought at BPS 5 years ago for 1/2 price.

As to knots... learn three right off the bat---Palomar (I use that to tie most lures to my leader), Uni to Uni knot (leader to braid) and either the Rapala Knot or the Non-Slip Mono Knot for tying crankbaits to leader material.

I have that same spooler and it makes a HUGE difference. The only easier way is to get the guy at BPS to spool it for ya before you leave the store!

However, I use the Improved Clinch knot for most stuff, and the Albright for my braid-to-leader connections. The Palomar is a good and simple knot and I like the Rapala, too.

Improved cinch knot also for tieing to hooks and lures. Uni to uni works just fine for me as braid to leader connection
