Now you understand why I don't post much on where I'm fishing?

The rivers I fish are small, sometimes you can even cast across. I see people post on creeks that you can spit across & they have no clue how one guy with a bucket full of minnows can clean out the area.

The resoarce is fragile, and posting locations on the WWW is one way to make sure that resoarce gets over fished and the bucket brigade get's their dinner for the next couple weeks.

On other boards, it's verbotten to post location, put in's and take outs. I don't mind sharing in PM's, but let someone spent atleast a little effort to research an area to determine if its fishable.

I learned my lesson when I first discovered fishing boards on the WWW. Posted a 100 fish day and next week not a parking spot was available.

Appreciate all the responses guys. Touche HookUp, touche.

I've never posted anything about this spot, not even here on KBF. The wrong pic would easily give it away. There's so many folks in NoVA that I guarantee the area would be recognized. I thought I could trust this guy, but obviously I was wrong. I learned, via a conversation, well probably more of an arguement, that he's been taking quite a few people there  I just gave him a bunch of free jigs too, salt in the wounds. Lesson learned though, it won't happen again.

Hopefully someone that reads this can avoid getting into a similiar situation.

That's the kind I'm looking for. :D

The problem around here is most of the public land that I used to fish or that I know could be great, is no longer open to the public. We have some orange groves and the like but I havent spent the time getting permission/searching the groves. :x

Yeah dont feel bad it happens.I have done the same with hunting areas.take a friend, then he takes his bro, then his bro takes his friend and so on.Its best to keep quiet about locations and be careful showing too much in pics.Recently I have had a guy in a little skiff follow me on 2 different occasions to watch how I am fishing. Then had another guy in a yak paddle up and just sit there and watch .Both were pretty much teenagers so I didnt want to be rude and crawl their buts but it irratated me at the time and I would throw something different until they moved on.Then on the other hand there are a few kbf ers in the same area and although we cut up and tease each other about areas and baits with a little good natured ribbing,we are all respectful of where we are all fishing and everyone does their own thing and everyone catches good fish so I dont worry too much if they see where I am or what I throw. In fact I even have shared some secrets with a couple. As with most walks of life nowadays respect seems to be hard to come by for some and its easier to steal others hotspots and baits than it is to do their own homework.I just chalk it up as lessons learned and wont show the ones that abuse the gift I give them any thing else.

Just take the high road, and politely educate this group, or just the one guy, on why keeping a breeder fish of that size will reduce the population of said honey hole until it's just a hole with no honey.

We share a honey hole now and then, but if you get caught here, you go to jail.

A painful way to learn that lesson. I made it too, once.

Pattern development, conditions, presentation, and the thinking behind how the fish were caught are far more valuable to a good fisherman than location anyway, but 90% of people want to know where - as in which body of water, boat ramp, or sometimes more detailed location.

I'm pretty careful now on my pictures too, as I try to keep recognizable landmarks out of the background. Lots of time when I see a photo of a nice fish, if it's from a river I fish often I can make a pretty darn good guess as to which stretch of water it came from.

Our resources deserve our protection, but at the same time they need advocates who know they are valuable recreational fisheries. If no one speaks up about a good river or lake, then there may be no one to stand up for it when threatened by pollution or development.

One of my favorite floats, a friend showed me only after swearing me to internet secrecy. Said the day he saw me name it online, well, he knew people who knew how to do things.... I believe him.
