Back From the 'Stan

Postby JLeephoto » Fri May 18, 2012 1:32 pm

Hey folks, just back from Afghanistan, and glad to see the boards still going strong. I've missed you guys ;) . Spent a lot of time crisscrossing a beautiful stretch of the Helmand River, wishing I could take a day off from the war and just go fishing. Will look forward to hitting the water with some of you soon. I've got some time off on Monday-Tuesday if anyone wants to go chase something in the NOVA area.
Here's a couple pics. The first is me crossing the river on a ferry boat. The gent at the tiller a friendly local or Taliban? Never know.

Finally, proof that fish are plentiful in the Helmand. Afghan Army Soldiers cleaning the days catch. Not sure what they were but some type of bottom feeders.

If you get the time, check out the Central VA HOW schedule and come paddle with us, as a Hero, or a Volunteer, it would be our honor to welcome you.

Thanks Jim, just to clarify, I'm not in the service. I just chase those guys around with a camera. Still very honored to be a part. Will be looking to get more involved in HOW in the coming year.

Welcome home. And even if you are not a part of the service the pictures you take will do great justice to the soldiers. You get to show all of us what its like over there (hopefully). You are a part of and documenting history in the making.

Now get to fishing!!!!! ;)

Thats the idea CRX. I'll get my website updated soon. But, as always it was good to spend time out with the 1/7 & 1/8 Marines in Helmand. They appreciate knowing that we haven't forgotten about them over in the suck.
Looks like my meal ticket's (aka "wife") is getting transferred to Winston-Salem, NC, so I'll have to learn a new fishery. In the mean time, I've got a couple months to enjoy the potomac and try to finally get my first Citation. Hoping that 19.5er from last summer has grown a little. So, any of you NOVA guys looking for a partner in June, drop me a line. And all you Western NC guys, I can use all the help I can get to get started down your way.

Welcome home JLeephoto. I t was fun fishing and talking to you last year on the Potomac river raid. Also thanks for the KBF reflective sticker.

I should have some free time this month to hit the water but my days off rotate so I am always off on different days. If you are ever headed up to the Potomac from Brunswick and up let me know.

Again welcome home and thank you for keeping my brothers entertained over there!
