Ugly Stick 6 foot baitcaster
medium action.
What gear reel and what lures would you use for this? I got 5.3 and 6.4 gear ratio ambassadeurs.
I just don't see how this rod is useful. I inherited it from an uncle.

I would use it for suspending jerkbaits or shallow cranks. The ugly stick is good on species with soft tissue and helps you avoid ripping their mouths open. The problem with them is that it can be difficult to set the hook on certain fish with certain baits. I would make sure my trebles are sharp.
You could also use it with small finesse presentations perhaps a Draggin head and floating bird or other small profile soft plastic. The Draggin heads doesnt require a hard hookset.

Put the 6.4 reel on it with braid and when you feel the strike don't stop cranking during the hook set.

Or replace trebles with circle hooks.

It will work ok with anything that has treble hooks. Its a little short so it would also be good anywhere you are cramped for casting space.bank fishing or areas with alot of limbs overhead

I fished with that very rod or something very similar through most of my teen years. I fished everything on it. Worms, spinner baits, top water, and chicken livers.
It is probably best suited for treble baits but it depends on your needs. I actually like the shorter rods for close quarters, casting under trees or hitting pockets. If you dont have a need, use it as a spare or loaner.

x3 -- Put flourocarbon on the faster reel, and use it for cranks; put mono on the slower reel, and use it for topwater (Pop-R's).
