I will try the braid first as it ll help with watching line movement. As far as rod...i was thinking little longer one would give me some leverage. Both St. Croix rods have great sensativity....i can usually feel slightesr nible...but when those lunkers inhale it in weeds it some times isnt noticeable...lol.

Wacky rig is my go to lure now....i cant tell u how much luck ive had with it. Now if I can hone in on my knowledge/skill of fising structures, and what to look for...my success will triple.....lol. Some of these LMB I have caught in places i didnt expect....lol. I try and sight fish when i can and look for pockets , drop offs , rocks, etc. as I dont have a fish finder.

Since opening day (April 1) Ive caught upwards of 130 fish...lol. And honestly have used only 4 lures....Wacky rig, Berkley flicker shad, chartruse spinner bait double willow, and believe it or not a mister twister black/chartruse grub. But id say over half of the fish were caught on wacky rig.....Lol.

x3 on the braid

20lb test for light to no structure
30lb for trees and docks
50lb for slops and pads
65lb if you are punching heavy grass mats

I use two rods almost exclusively right now and switch my reels depending upon what I am targeting and which water type I will be in.

First rod - a 6'8" St. Croix AVID Medium Extra Fast or (AV68MXF) and it will handle weightless flukes, small jig heads, spinnerbaits, small cranksbaits, jerkbaits, etc.....

Second rod - a 7'2" Shimano Clarus MH XF Worm n Jig model rod. I use this for all of my soft plastic presentations like shakey heads, wacky, draggin heads, etc.

Medium Light is a little on the light side for my tastes personally.
