Need a new BC Rod-Mine broke

Postby Brock » Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:44 pm

Did a stupid thing unloading my rods out of my rig from fishing this weekend and set them against a rack in the garage close to the garage door. My baitcaster had fallen over and I didn't notice before I closed the garage door. Went in the house and later when I came out to find it snapped. It had fallen against a box so it was propped up and snapped it about half way down.
Anyhow, not much for funds right now as I am saving money for a wedding in Mexico later this year, just need to get something to get me by. I have $50 to spend so with tax was looking at the Bass Pro Graphite series and the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock. Both are $40 so it would keep me under the $50.
What do you think. Both feel good in the hand. Just need something to fish out the rest of the year with. Need to pick up one this week as I am set to fish both Friday and Saturday......
Oh this is my Jig and Worm rod so I am looking to get the 7' MH

Thank in advance.

Go for the MH 7' G-Shock . You'll like it and won't give it up when
you find another rod. ;)

Another good option if you can find them at BPS is the Shimano Voltaeus. It's sold for $40

Thank spdmtl.......

Chuck,
I am heading by BPS tomorrow, I will see if they have any. Their website doesn't show they carry them but that doesn't mean that they may have them in the store. I thought I seen them at a Wally World but the store I was at only had Med.

I have a shock rod MH 7' also. My first rod with the split grip. If you go with the Berkley spend your last 5.95 on shipping for the tee shirt.

I have the 7' MH lightning rod shock as well. I have used it for just about everything under the sun. I would suggest it as for $50 it is a solid rod.

Well I went to BPS today and looked at the Shock, BPS Graphite Series and the Shimano Voltaeus. The Voltaeus was nice but they only had one in stock and it was a ML and priced at $50 so that went off the list.
Picked up a BPS GS and Shock, held both rods side by side doing the touchy feally thing us guys do when looking at fishing poles........I liked the feel of the Shock better especially the fact that it has an exposed blank in the reel seat. The BPS GS on the 6'6" models and down have a small exposed area to feel the blank but the 7' and 7'6" don't, why who knows... Decided on the Shock so I went to Wally World and bought the Shock there as it was $10 cheaper.
Got home and put my reel on for some practice casting....I really like the feel. Now just have to wait for Friday to get here to put it to the real test.
Thank for the input guys.

Well a quick report on the Shock Rod I bought. I got the 7' MH Fast action. Fished Friday but hit a smaller river for smallies and only took spinning gear with me.
Saturday fished a lake with a local club. Loved how the rod performed. Sensitivity was great especially with the exposed blank. Very nice balance considering I am still using a Quantum reel I bought back in the mid 90's that is heavier and sits higher than the new models. Did some practice casting in the yard on Thursday with both braid and mono, both did great, same thing on the water. Guides are very smooth, was using some Spiderwire Stealth braid, really liked how it is performing. Quiet as the PP I normally use if not a tad quieter.
Didn't hook into any fish, in fact of 14 guys fishing in the group only 3 fish were caught :( couple of dinks and a 12"er. Talk about sloooowwwwwww :(
Did manage to get hung up in the weeds pretty good a few times and decided to make like I was setting the hook. The rod has a very good backbone.

Anyway, anyone looking for a decent rod in the $40 to $50 range (depending where you buy it) I would give the Berkley Lighting Rod Shock a thumbs up ;)

Thought I'd add to the thread as I just picked up 2 shocks this past week myself (1 spinning 1 bc). Been out twice with them and love them, actually not using my TFO Gary loomis as much cause of the weight and sensitivity of the shock. For $40 (which I can't believe that's all they cost) they can't be beat!
