Anyone have any information regarding good locations for a beginning kayak angler to fish this area?

I've owned my Native Ultimate now for about six months and I've had it out on the tribs quite a bit, and on the river twice but I'd like to expand my horizons. Due to my work schedule, most of the time, I'm out on my own. What I'm looking for are areas that are fairly safe and the water isn't too hairy for a beginner.

I've thought about fishing near the turnpike bridge or even City Island but I'm not sure. Plus I know the dock street dam is near that area.

Any help is much appreciated!

A great single access point just North of Hbg is to launch from the Ft Hunter ramp (off of rt 322) and paddle upstream to the bottom of the Narrows. Not only can you fish alot of the rocks at the bottom of the Narrows, but there is a large pool just below the Narrows toward the Ft Hunter side. Hope this helps! Matt

The tunrpike bridge area is a great place for smallies. My boss at work just wacked a 21" SM and man was she a hogg.

If you use the dock by the Turnpike bridge you will need a permit top park their. Not sure where to get it but its owned I guess by Steelton. You will get a parking ticket. I think if you go to the Boro office you can pick one up fairly cheap.

Me and my brother like to fish the the public dock about a 1/2 mile down from 2nd TMI entrance. You can then paddle to the York Haven dam area or paddle over the warm water discharge area. Good fishing for cattys, SM, musky, and many other fish. Lots of fun in that area.

The Fort Hunter area is also nice as you can paddle up to the Dauphin narrows area for some great SM fishing. Fort Hunter has a public launch area.

Me and my brother mainly fish the lakes around here. I'm sure others will chime in that know the river areas better than me.

The Amity Hall boat access just off 22/322 above Duncannon is a doable kayak spot to put in and paddle up stream. Some good rock structure on the way up to a series of small rapids about 2 miles up stream. A few Walleye but mostly smallmouth. Paddling with the low water is relatively easy. Also an easy paddle through the rapids on the right side of the river right will let you get well above where bass boats cant get to right now.
