I rented a kayak from JandL kayak adventures durring memorial day weekend and fished from the Cherry Grove boat landing at the end of 53 ave. This was my first time salt water fishing. Not sure what body of water that is but we fished a mile or 2 stretch with mud minnows and and caught a few flounder and had blues bite a bunch of minnows in half. We also caught a bunch of blue crabs. It was very crowded with boats and the occasional jet ski though.

Check this video out Cherry Grove.   I am sure a lot of you all have seen this but this one makes my hair stand up. I have spent time in that area and frequent areas just south of there. Many places in that area barely hold enough water for boats to pass at low tide. That thing would make for one heck of a sleigh ride!!

Vacationed there for 15 years. There's a deep hole and rock pile at the end of 43rd that's a nice flounder hole. a little further up toward the "lake" is a broad mud flat that gets loaded with reds on a falling tide. The outflow from the lake is a nice trout hole on a falling tide. They just sit and wait to ambush the finger mullet getting flushed out.

closer to the launch there are a few deep undercut banks that hold flounder and trout too.

You can pick up a little bit of everything fishing the docks, just be prepared to lose a lot of tackle. There was tons of riprap poured in in the creek before the sea walls were built.

I've caught reds, trout, flounder, sheeps, hooked a tarpon (spooled and lost), and hooked some big toothys (spooled and lost), and caught a cow nosed ray as big as a car hood.

While your up there look up Mike Eady at Black River Outdoors. He is a local kayak fishing guide that knows his stuff. If you are looking to get into flounder or Redfish in that area he is the guy to talk to.

Going to myrtle beach for the first time since 1998 the week of aug 6th with my family. Staying in a hotel so im not taking my yak,or any fishing gear, but would like to do some yak fishing. Im thinking about gettin a guide from the area does anyone else know much about J&L kayak adventures and Black River outdoors as far as their guides services? Hey Jeff did you just rent a yak from J&L or did you get a guide?

How did you do? I just saw your post, as we were in Cherry Grove last week also. I was going to take my paddleboard and paddle and fish off it, until I saw the shark video  - I'd say we might have been travling on I95 at the same time,

WOW What a TIDE CHANGE 4.9ft fished 3 days hard, caught 1 flounder saw plenty reds but could not get them to look at what I was throwing . Talked to lots of other guys out there fishing same thing ??? Pier report catching small amounts of fish (meaning just about none) there were 4 of us fishing from our house HOW WAS IT ,HAD GREAT TIME!!
Shark vid, 1st day out I needed to get a water out of the cooler as I sat sideways on my Ride a boat came by and the guy said you are real brave (or stupid ) that house in front of you is where the shark video came from. Enough said feet and hands stayed in boat at all times.
Fished in 1 to 3 ft of water up in the marsh most of the time thru -- Spoons, plastic jerk baits, DOA shrimp, poppers with DOA shrimp and spinners
