PB LM Bass 25.5in

Postby Tanker44 » Sun May 06, 2012 2:38 am

Had a day off this Friday and I went out for at fishing trip to Falcon Lake in Zapata,Tx. Got there early I was in the water by 7:30am went to a point with some rocks and started the day with the Redeye Sexy Shad 1/2oz. throwing it to shore and reeling it down to about 4ft and they would just hit it hard. Caught 6 small ones none bigger than 2lbs but did lose a nice one that i didnt get to see it fought for a while then took off to a tree and got stuck for a few seconds before throwing the Redeye :D

After catching two more at another point i had my lunch at my truck and went out again to catch some talipa for dinner and get some cut bait for catfish or big alligator gar. They fight hard and it gets boring mid day when the bass arent bitting 8-) After only catching 2 catfish and no luck with the gar I went to a drop where some tree are at 4 - 5ft on the edge of a drop to 8ft. I started with a Zoom 8in lizard watermelon charturse tail Texas rig caught a small one before I switched to the Redeye Sexy Shad 1/2oz again. Started throwing it to the tree and reel in, stopping where the drop was for a 2 count and starting again with the retrieve. After about 7 cast I get a hit not to different than others so I set the hook and I quicky could tell it was a nice one 8-) I start bringing it in and it never jumped but just as so as it got close to the kayak it takes off under the yak. Im anchored to a tree branch in 9ft of water so I try to pull it away for the tree  I get it away of the tree so I think Im about to bring him up and it starts taking line again running to the deep end :) It was fun and the adrenaline is running but I started thinking it was a gar cus of the way the took line and it didnt jump :) I've caught gar with deep crank before n its an awesome fight but a little dissappointing went you think its a big bass. After a fight for about 40 seconds it finally came up and I freaked  It was huge so I try lipping it with my hand and it just shook me off :o and took off again under the yak before I just palmed the stomach and threw it on my lap :D Where it just kept jumping so I threw my leg over it and headed to shore. I removed the redeye which was deep in it mouth with my HAND :D n secured him with a single rode stringer I made just in case they jump when your taking the picture or to keep the fish in the water while you get your things ready. It was my personal best 25.5in :D

After release her back nice and safe and after a few calls to some friends and girlfriend I went back out. It was still early 5:30 so I went back to that same spot and threw the Redeye again after a retie with no hits. So I changed back to the lizard and caught another nice one 22.5in followed by one more small one before I packed it up very happy :D

OK, it's OFFICIAL. South Texas has to compete against themselves. There is no freaking way the rest of the country can compete in the Challenges against that. In school don't y'all remember how much we all HATED the kid who "busted" the grading curve?
