FLY SWAP PROPOSAL - Bluegill, Panfish favorites

Postby Doogie » Mon Jan 24, 2011 12:03 am

This will be my first time as a Swapmeister, so bear with me if I give too much or too little info.

I am proposing a fly swap. In order to help us all get ready for Spring, this swap will be for your favorite Bluegill or Panfish fly. This can be any family of fly (popper, beetle, spider, nymph, streamer), as long as it is one that you would reach for on your next Panfish outing. The greater variety we can get, the better. I will be tying a beetle pattern that is my go-to fly when the bluegill are bedding.

I will leave the sign-up open until 7:00 a.m. on 1 FEB. At that time, I will consolidate the list and send a PM to all Fly Swap members with the number of flies they need to tie, and the due date. As this is my first time leading a swap, I will intentionally be over-informative on the status of the swap.

If you would like to join the swap, please reply to this thread, indicating your desire to participate. New tiers -- you are strongly encouraged to participate in this swap. Your flies don't have to be perfect, just do your best -- the only way to get better is tie, tie, tie.

I look forward to seeing how many folks want to join the first swap of the year.

Alright, this will pull me from my hibernation for sure. Love fly fishing, love fly tying, and I love Panfish, can't beat that. Please include me in the Swap, I have a few ideas for flies and I have a few producers I could tie, still gotta decide so my fly is to be determined.

Are we just doing 1 fly for each person in the swap. So, if 8 people swapping in total we tie 7 flies to send out? Or are we doing doubles? Either way I'll probably tie doubles because I'd rather someone have 2 of a fly that might work rather than 1. ;)

I am interested. When does it start, as in have to ship? I am doing a lot of traveling now for work, so I don't have a lot of down time to tye. Maybe I'll see what I got done already in a box.

Do we post pic's and let me pick what they want??

Answers to some questions --

Orion -- We will be doing one fly per person, as you said. If 10 people join, we will all tie and send out 9 copies of the same fly. I'll have the exact number on 1 FEB. That is the cut-off date for signing up. (If you really want to tie 2 of your flies per person, I'll allow it, but be aware that you will only get one back from everybody else.)

ArcheryRob -- I'm waiting to determine the "must ship by" date until I see how many folks will be participating. I'm thinking Valentin'es Day, as that will give two solid weeks (and two weekends), but I may flex the date if we need to tie a large number of flies. (Just so you know, I'm starting now, so I make sure I have time to get all mine done.)

Ruffels -- Glad you will be joining the swap. Please review the post: Fishin'; Fly Fishin'; Fly Swap General Rules. This should make it clear what is expected. In a nutshell, you will tie one copy of your selected fly for each person who is participating, and send them to me. I will sort through the flies and everyone who contributes will get back one of each fly that is submitted.

My current tally of swap members:
1. Doogie
2. Kayakfish
3. ibboone
4. flyfisher
5. hokiefisherman
6. Orion
7. archeryrob
8. Ruffells
