Compete in Kayak Bass Fishing Events

KBF runs competitive Catch-Photo-Release (CPR) events for every level of kayak fishing skill and experience.

  1. Join KBF. Student and military discounts are available.
  2. Visit Kayak Tournament Fishing 101 to learn kayak competition tips, tools, and tactics.
  3. Gear-up (e.g., kayak, canoe or SUP, paddle, lifejacket with whistle and signal light).
  4. Choose the level of competition that’s right for you (described below).
  5. Read, understand and commit to observe KBF Competition Rules.
  6. Register for events and pay the entry fee on TourneyX.
  7. Obtain an approved measuring board. Download, print, and write the Event ID Code on a KBF Identifier Card.
  8. Launch from public-access areas and compete during competition hours on eligible water.
  9. Submit photos that satisfy the rules standards to TourneyX via a web browser or the TourneyX app.

KBF Challenge Series

KBF Challenge SeriesRelatively low entry fees and convenience of these virtual (online-only) tournaments make them ideal for anglers just getting into kayak fishing as well as those whose job and life schedules permit shorter blocks of fishing times on weekdays, or at off-peak hours. Challenge competitors fish for cash prizes. They earn Challenge Points leading to state and national Challenge Angler of the Year titles. They also can qualify to compete in the annual KBF Challenge Series Championship (“100 Challenge Championship”), KBF Dee Zee TENvitational, and the biggest kayak fishing competition of the year, the KBF National Championship.

State Challenges

KBF Redfish Challenge Series

Redfish ChallengeKayak angling is a multi-species pursuit. Since bass tackle and gear are ideal for redfish and so many in the KBF community are already redfish anglers, that’s the first species outside of black bass that KBF is targeting in kayak competition, Like other KBF Challenges, these combine the least entry fees with the most convenience. Redfish Challenge competitors fish for cash prizes and Redfish Challenge Points leading to a national Redfish Challenge Angler of the Year title. Competitors can also qualify to compete in the annual KBF Redfish Challenge Series Championship, KBF Dee Zee TENvitational, and the biggest kayak fishing competition of the year, the KBF National Championship. Read more about the KBF Redfish Challenge Series.

TRAIL SeriesRegional meet-up tournaments offer KBF Competitor and Lifetime Members chances to go head-to-head with the region’s top kayak bass anglers for nationwide honors. AOY Points earned in each tournament build toward the coveted KBF Angler of the Year and Rookie of the Year titles. Competitors may qualify to compete in KBF TRAIL Series Regional Finals and Championship, KBF Dee Zee TENvitational, and the KBF National Championship. Read more about KBF TRAIL Series.

KBF Pro Tour Series Tournaments

KBF Pro TourIn this series, KBF Members on track to higher-level competition, or careers in sportfishing and paddlesports competition and promotion, showcase their skill, commitment and talent fishing against other in KBF’s top ranks. This first year should lead to more opportunities and greater rewards in future years. The Pro Tour Championship takes place alongside the KBF TRAIL Series and KBF Challenge Series Championships on the Mississippi River near La Cross, Wisconsin in mid-October. Read more about KBF Pro Tour

FLW-KBF Open & Cup Tournaments

  • FLW-KBF Open and Cup TournamentsTwo-day meet-up tournaments held in conjunction with FLW Open and Cup Series Tournaments
  • To register, compete, and qualify for ranking and rewards, one must have paid current year FLW Competitor Member dues. [Join FLW] (Note: each KBF Pro Tour Registrant receives an FLW Competitor Membership.)
  • KBF Membership is not required to compete in 2019 FLW-KBF Open and Cup Tournaments
