Ever catch your biggest bass while pre-fishing? Now it can pay off. Carolina Kayak Anglers is hosting a 1-day KBF Big Bass Competition benefitting Heroes on the Water (HOW) at the site of the 2017 KBF TRAIL Series Tournament on Falls Reservoir near Wake Forest, North Carolina.

Registered competitors catch and upload photos of bass caught from Fishable Water and during competition hours over two days, each striving to submit a photo of the longest fish caught to win a single cash prize.

2017 KBF HOW Big Bass Brawl – Barren River Lake Rules Addendum

  1. Dates: Saturday, March 11, 2017
  2. Tournament Director: AJ McWhorter (859-351-3617) and Jay Wallen
  3. Eligibility: Open to both KBF Member and non-members
  4. Registrations Required: Must have a free TourneyX account and sign up on TourneyX
  5. Venue: Barren River Lake
  6. KBF Partner Host: Bluegrass Yakmasters
  7. Venue Host/Tournament HQ: The Landing at Port Oliver
  8. Eligible Water & Location: Competitors may fish ONLY on public-access water on Barren River Lake where fishing is permitted by regulation and bass are in-season.
  9. Species: Black bass.
  10. Format: This is a 1-day CPR tournament where the lengths of a single (1) bass caught by each angler will comprise each competitor’s score
  11. Cooperation and Assistance:Up until end of pre-fishing at 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, competitors may fish with other anglers and guides on the eligible waters. Before and during this event, competitors may (a.) share gear, tackle and equipment, (b.) assist in photographing a fish for submission, and (c.) may communicate with and fish in proximity to other people, including competitors. Competitors may not receive assistance in catching fish, including boat positioning, casting, retrieving, hooking, playing, or landing a fish.
  12. Watercraft Restrictions: Competitors are prohibited from having any other people onboard their kayaks during competition hours.
  13. PFD Usage: Vest-style PFD (inherent-flotation or inflatable) must be fastened, positioned and adjusted to conform with USGC and manufacturers’ instructions. A competitor may briefly remove his PFD while afloat in order to take off or put on articles of clothing if all of these conditions exist: (a.) no fishing lines are in the water, and (b.) the watercraft is not underway, and (c.) weather and water conditions permit one to do so safely, and (d.) the competitor is over the age of 12. He must immediately put the PFD back on when finished changing his attire and before he resumes navigation or fishing.
  14. Event Schedule (All times are CST, Central Standard Time)
    • Friday, 3/10, 4:00 p.m.: Pre-fishing ends
    • Friday, 3/10, 8:00 p.m.: Event ID Code Released; will appear in registered competitors’ TourneyX Dashboards
    • Friday, 3/10, 11:45 p.m.: Registration Deadline
    • Saturday 3/10, 7:00 a.m.: Competition start time; Lines in/First cast
    • Saturday 3/11, 4:00 p.m.: Competition end time; Deadline for competitors to be in Check-in Line at Tournament HQ
    • Saturday 3/11, 4:30 p.m.: Photo submission cut-off, with awards to follow. Must be present to win.
  15. Entry Fee and Procedures
    • Entry Fee is $20, paid through TourneyX.
    • NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE EVENT. All Entry Fees must be paid before Registration Deadline through the TourneyX Tournament Management System, which uses PayPal as its payment processor. Registrants pay with a PayPal account debit or by check/debit card.
    • To Sign up and pay the Entry Fee: (a.) log into TourneyX, (b.) navigate to the Event Page or click the dashboard’s “Register for Tourney” button and select the event from the drop-down menu, (c.) read and check the box that indicates agreement with and commitment to abide by all Rules, Competition Terms and Conditions, and terms of the Liability Release and Waiver Agreement, and then click .”
  16. Entry Fee Refunds—Not available for this charity event.
  17. Identifier Form & Code
    • Every photo must include a legible KBF Identifier Form.
    • At the time indicated above, a Unique Event ID Code will appear in each competitor’s TourneyX Dashboard. Print that code in the Bottom-RIght field.
    • Each KBF Identifier Form has six blocks or “fields,” permitting one Form to serve for up to six concurrent events. If you are already using a KBF Identifier Form for another KBF Challenge or a KBF Tournament, you may use it for this one as well by printing each Unique Event ID Code in it’s specified field.
  18. Scores & Ranking:
    • Judges will verify and, when appropriate, revise scores for accuracy and when points are deducted for rules infractions.
    • Rankings will be determined by the score of each competitor’s single (1) longest bass caught and uploaded in accordance with the KBF Competition Rules for this event.
    • Ties are broken by second big fish, in accordance with KBF Rules set out in the KBF Competition Rules Standards.
  19. Cash Prizes
    • The Event Prize Purse is the number of registrations times the $10 (50% of total Entry Fees).
    • Prize Distribution is made after winner have provided a copy to KBF of his IRS W-9 form. For security purposes, cash is not handled at TRAIL Tournaments. The amount of each Cash Prize will sent to the winner by PayPal Funds Transfer. If a prize or bonus recipient does not have a PayPal account, he may request that KBF mail a company check to the address on his IRS W-9 form. Winner is responsible for payment of all state and federal income taxes.Award: 50% of Entry Fees paid out for biggest bass. (Balance of Entry Fee proceeds are donated to HOW.)
  20. Conditions of Participation: By registering for this KBF-sanctioned and -directed event, each competitor affirms he has read and agrees to abide by:
    1. The “KBF Competition Rules Standards,” including a “Release and Indemnification Agreement” and a “Copyright and Use of Images Agreement”), and
    2. The specific rules and restrictions outlined in the “KBF Competition Rules Addendum” on this KBF Website Event page.
