2018 KBF Young Guns - Paris, Tennessee

Young Guns is an age-bracketed, one-day, 3-fish, CPR kayak bass fishing competition for primary and secondary school-age youths, grades 1 through 12 and who maintain a grade point average acceptable to both parents and school administration.

  1. Venue: Henry County, Paris, Tennessee
  2. Venue Host: Henry County Tourism Authority
  3. Concurrent KBF Events: None
  4. Tournament Director: Richard Penny. Organizer Paul Martin.
  5. Format: 1-day CPR tournament using the TourneyX Tournament Management System
  6. Competition Rules & Conditions of Participation: By registering, Competitor affirms that he has read, understands, and as a condition of participation in the Event agrees to abide by KBF Competition Rules, which are in two parts:
    • The “KBF Competition Rules Standards,” including a “Release and Indemnification Agreement” and a “Copyright and Use of Images Agreement.”
    • The specific rules and restrictions outlined in this “KBF Event Rules Addendum.”
    • Minimum length of bass scored: 8 inches
    • KBF Rules are authoritative, taking precedence over all information presented in social media, TMS, oral presentations, and other information sources.
    • Adult Supervisor may advise Competitor in lure selection and presentation but may not assist in boat positioning or in casting, retrieving, hooking and landing a fish.
    • At time of launch Thursday morning, Adult Supervisor must text the competitor’s name and launch site location to Tournament Director. When moving to another launch site, updated launch site information must be texted to the TD. (This gives an approximate location for search and rescue personnel if competitor fails to check in at end of event.)
    • Adult Supervisor must present a Throw Bag at Event Check-in prior to Captains Meeting and have it within reach on his watercraft during competition.
    • Competitor and Adult Supervisor must each present first aid kits at Event Check-in and carry them on their watercraft during competition. (Minimum requirements: bandages, antiseptic or wound cleanser, gauze pad, and tape).
    • Competitor and Adult Supervisor are permitted to communicate with each other while on the water using FRS radio or Marine Band radio.
  7. Eligibility:
    • Competitors are currently enrolled in school, grades one through twelve, and are carrying a GPA that meets with parent and school  administration satisfaction.
    • Competitors of 18 years or older must present documentation verifying student status.
    • 2018 KBF Annual Membership, 2018 Annual Student Membership, or 2018 Annual Family 3+ membership or KBF Lifetime Membership is required. Competitor must have paid his dues by midnight on the day before start-of-competition.

  8. Entry Fee and Procedures
    • Entry Fee: No Charge
    • To register: (a.) log into TourneyX, (b.) navigate to the Event Page or click the dashboard’s “Register for Tourney” button and select the event from the drop-down menu, (c.) check a box that indicates agreement with and commitment to abide by all Rules, Competition Terms and Conditions, and terms of the Liability Release and Waiver Agreement and then (d.) click the “REGISTER” button.
  9. Event ID Code
    • At the Captains Meeting, KBF Identifier Cards will be distributed to all Competitors. These must appear in each photo by, above, or below (not on or covering any portion of) the bass.
  10. Eligible Water: Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, plus three additional areas separated from them by levies or obstructions: South Cross Creek, Bards Lake, and West Sandy Creek between Elkhorn Road and the pump house levy.
  11. Boundaries: All water contiguous to eligible water, to which Competitor may float without leaving his watercraft. This includes from Kentucky Lake dam south to I-40, and from the Cumberland dam south and east to the downstream point at mouth of the Red River in Clarksville. Eligible water includes the areas of North and South Cross Creeks and Bards Lake. (The flooded area of West Sandy Creek to the west of Elkhorn Road near Mammy and Pappy’s Bed and Breakfast is off limits.) Any sloughs, tributaries, or channels up which one may float/paddle from the main body of water (north of I-40) are also in-bounds.

  14. Captains Meeting
    • At event check-in prior to the Captains Meeting, competitor and/or Adult Supervisor must present the required first aid kits (one for each watercraft) and throw bag (for Adult Supervisor’s watercraft).
    • Competitor are required to attend a briefing at Tournament HQ on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

  16. Event Schedule (all times are local for the tournament HQ)
    • Wednesday, March 21
    • • 4:00 p.m.: Prefishing ends
      • 6:00 p.m.: Event ID Code Released
      • 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.: Event Check-in on porch at west end of Henry County Fairgrounds West Building.
      • 7:00 p.m.: Captains Meeting at Tournament HQ
    • Thursday, March 22
      • 6:00 a.m.: Earliest Launch (360° white light required if launching before sunrise at 6:52 a.m.)
      • 7:00 a.m.: Start-of-competition; first cast
      • 2:00 p.m.: End-of-competition; lines out; photo upload deadline
      • 2:00–3:00 p.m.: Assistance with manual uploads at Tournament HQ Check-in Counter (west end porch)
      • 3:30 p.m.: Deadline to check in to Tourney HQ. (Late or Failure to check in will result in disqualification.)
      • 7:00 p.m.: Young Guns Awards will be presented at the KBF National Championship Captains Meeting.
  17. Scores and Ranking:
    • The combined length of the three (3) bass caught during competition hours will contribute to each Competitor’s score.
    • Event ranking is determined by the total score (length) for any photo(s) beside each Competitor’s name on the Leader Board when judging and verification is complete.
  18. Prizes:
    • Awards to be determined
    • Prizes will be awarded to the top three positions for each grade group
