Shreveport/Bosier Sports Authority, the Red River Commission and Louisiana Travel welcome KBF Members to Shreveport/Bossier, Louisiana for three days of high-stakes competition. The 2019 YakAttack Kayak Bass Fishing YakAttack National Championship, presented by Torqeedo, is the top freshwater kayak fishing tournament in the world. This year’s event will have the largest payout, most bonuses, and the stiffest national-level competition in the Kayak Bass Fishing nation.

BOUNDARY UPDATE, 3/29/2019: For Day 3 of the Big Bass Brawl, competitors NOT in the Top 100 KBFNC are permitted to fish the Red River as far south as the Highway 6 bridge northeast of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Top 100 Competitors are restricted to the original southern boundary, the mouth of Loggy Bayou.

  1. Format: This is a three-day CPR tournament with reduction in field for Day 3. Each competitor’s final score will be determined by adding the total length of the bass by his name on the Event Leader Board at end-of-competition time on Day 1 (Thursday), Day 2 (Friday) and Day 3 (Saturday). All bass scored must have been caught from eligible water during competition hours and submitted within the time frame permitted by the rules. Up to five (5) bass each day will contribute to the cumulative score.

    • KBF Lifetime Member or 2018 KBF Annual Member during the 2018 calendar year
    • Qualified through KBF-sanctioned competition or KBF Partner awards
    • Registered and completed Entry Fee payment by January 31, 2019

  6. Registration Deadline: 11:59 P.M. January 31, 2019
  7. Entry Fee and Procedures
    • Sign up and pay the $300 Entry Fee ($400 after December 31, 2018) through the KBF Online Store.
    • KBFNC Competitors are also eligible to compete in an optional, concurrent 3-day KBF Big Bass Brawl. To enter, pay the $100 KBF BONUS BUCKS KBFNC/Big Bass Brawl fee by selecting KBF BONUS BUCKS-KBFNC in the KBF Online Store.
  8. Entry Fee Refunds: Requests for refund of Entry Fees must be emailed to accounting@kayakbassfishing.com and received by Kayak Bass Fishing, LLC by March 11—fifteen days prior to the competition. All refunds after March 11 will be assessed a $25 administrative fee.
  9. Tournament Management System (TMS): This event is conducted using the TourneyX Tournament Management System (TMS)
  10. Competitor Event Check-in: All competitors must sign in at the Event Check-in station  between 2 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 27. Participants are not cleared for competition until they have checked in on Thursday.
  11. Captains Meeting: Competitor is required to attend a pre-tournament briefing (Captains Meeting) to review rules, receive information and Event Identifier Cards:
    • Wednesday, March 27, 6:00 p.m.: Pre-event Briefing at Tournament HQ, Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Red River Room
    • Thursday 5:30 a.m.: Pre-event Briefing for late arrivals, Harrah’s Louisiana Downs lobby.
    • Thursday, March 28, 6:00 p.m.: Day 1 Captains Meeting; Day 1 Early Bird and Big Bass Brawl awards; distribute Day 2 Identifier Cards.
    • Friday, March 29, 6:00 p.m.: Day 2 Captains Meeting to award Day 2 Early Bird and Big Bass Brawl awards, announce Top Team Cup Challenge winners and Top 100 advancing to Day 3 KBFNC competition; distribute Day 3 Identifier Cards.
    • Saturday, March 30, 7:00 p.m.: Awards Ceremony

  13. Event ID Code
    • Event ID Codes will not be used for the KBF National Championship; instead, unique KBF ID Cards will be distributed for each day.
    • Competitors will receive Thursday’s card at the Wednesday evening Captains Meeting (or late arrival Captains Meeting on Thursday morning)
    • Day 2 Identifier Cards will be distributed at the Thursday Captains Meeting.
    • Day 3 KBF Identifier Card will be distributed to the Top 100 at the Friday Captains Meeting.
    • On Day 3, Competitors outside of the Top 100 cut may still compete in the Big Bass Brawl and will be provided with KBF Identifier Cards and a three-character Event ID Code. Top 100 Identifier Cards will also count for the Big Bass Brawl.
    • Every photo must include the correct day’s KBF Identifier Card (and Event ID Code, for Day 3 Competitors fishing the Big Bass Brawl only).
  14. Eligible Water: Eligible water for all three days of competition will include the following five lakes and the Red River within a 25 mile radius of the Event HQ, plus tributaries up which one may paddle/float from the main bodies of water, except areas that are posted “Private, No Trespassing” or words to that effect.

    • Caddo Lake (See boundaries, below)
    • Cypress Bayou Reservoir and Black Bayou Reservoir, together comprising the Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area (Note: Boat Permit and Launch Fees have been waived for KBFNC Members while pre-fishing and during competition. Show KBF Event Identifier Card if asked to produce Permit, and leave one on vehicle dashboard to avoid being ticketed)
    • Cross Lake (Note: Boat Permit Fees have been waived for KBFNC Competitors. Show Event Identifier Card if asked to produce Permit)
    • Lake Bistineau

      NOTE
      : Originally, KBF planned to segregate the Top 100 on one body of water on Day 3 and leave the other five for Competitors fishing the Big Bass Brawl only. That has changed, so all Competitors will be permitted to fish any and all six bodies of water all three days of the event. The Top 100 will not be segregated on Day 3.

  15. Boundaries:
    • All of Caddo Lake in both Louisiana and Texas downstream from the Texas State Route 43 bridge
    • Red River—downstream from the Louisiana State Hwy 2 bridge all the way down to the mouth of Loggy Bayou, except restricted areas noted below.
    • Except as noted below, any backwaters, bays, creeks and sloughs contiguous to those lakes and the Red River are eligible, provided the Competitor is able to access the area from the main bodies of water by floating to it in his watercraft. They may not be separated from the main body of water by a dam, levee, bar, reef, berm, other land form.
    • Portaging is allowed ONLY to (a.) exit an area into which one has floated and that afterwards becomes isolated by a rapid drop in river or lake level or (b.) bypass a temporary obstruction, such as a downed tree across a creek
    • Propulsion is not an “eligible water” issue. Floating and pulling oneself by hand across a weed-choked swamp to reach backwaters on the other side is permissible.
  16. Red River Launch Sites Special Privileges — Three launch ramps closed to the general public due to high water conditions on the Red River have been authorized for exclusive use by KBFNC Competitors March 27-30:
    1. North Caddo Recreation Boat Launch just south of the Hwy 2 bridge at the northern edge of the eligible zone.
    2. Bishop Point Recreation Area north of Lock & Dam 5 in southern Shreveport.
    3. Red River South Marina.

    Please ensure that you use extreme caution if considering paddling near the main river channel.
  17. Restricted areas: According to Luke Pearson, Land Management Department of the Red River Waterway Commission, there are three areas of Pool 5 where the Red River Waterway Commission did not obtain recreational rights to the surface water. Water surface in the areas highlighted red in the satellite image on this page are considered private and should be avoided by KBFNC Competitors.
    1. Moon Lake Dairy— although the owners may not restrict access to that area, RRWC has only have inundation rights. Keep out.
    2. Caddo Bossier Port may not restrict access to Slack Water Harbor, but it is considered private. Keep out.
    3. The Cowley property adjacent to Red River South Marina is a privately-owned area and access to its water surface is restricted. This prohibition is strictly enforced. Keep out

  18. Competition Hours: Sunrise in Shreveport on March 28 will be at 7:09 A.M. Competition start times were established as approximately a half-hour before sunrise.

  19. Minimum Length: 12 inches is the minimum length of bass eligible for scoring in this event. Photos of bass under 12″ will be denied.
  20. Manual Submission of Digital Photos
    • Competitors should attempt to submit digital photos directly to TourneyX via web browser or app on a smart phone.
    • Competitors unable to upload photos directly to Tourney X must be in the Tournament HQ Photo Upload line no later than 3:30 P.M. on Competition Days.
    • For manual upload, Competitor must surrender to Tournament Staff his smart phone or camera and USB cable, which will be made available after uploading for retrieval by Competitors. (Note: Photo selection and upload is expedited, and risk of losing family photos is mitigated, if Competitor uses a camera memory card that has only Competition photos.)
  21. Scoring: Event ranking will be determined by the score (length) of all photos beside each Competitor’s name on the NRS Leader Board when judging and official review have concluded.
  22. Cash Prizes
    • Prize purse distributions are rounded to the nearest dollar amount.
    • 10% of field payout—one cash prize is paid for every ten registrants.
    • The guaranteed first place prize is $50,000. Total amounts and numbers of places paid out will vary with the number of registrations, but roughly one place will pay out for every 10 registrations.
  23. KBF BONUS BUCKS (“KBFBB,” KBF’s contingency awards program) and the KBFNC Big Bass Brawl have been combined with a single registration fee.
    • Competitors who meet eligibility requirements may win KBF BONUS BUCKS ranging from $100 to $5,000
    • To be eligible, Competitor must enroll in BONUS BUCKS-KBFNC no later than Wednesday 11:59 P.M., March 27, 2018. [Info] {Register]
    • Bonuses are paid in addition to Cash Prizes.
    • Bonus roll-downs will occur in some cases, but possibly at a lower amount. See BONUS BUCKS chart.
    • Sponsors establish BONUS BUCKS eligibility requirements; usually requiring winners to own and use their products.
  24. KBF Big Bass Brawl—All who register for the BONUS BUCKS-KBFNC & Big Bass Brawl are eligible to in hourly big bass prizes.
    • Prizes are based on the scores of photos submitted by Big Bass Brawl Competitors. A 25.25″ bass penalized 1″ for open mouth will be scored 24.25″ and may be beat out in the Brawl by a 24.50″ bass with no deductions.
    • Ties are broken based on upload time stamps.
    • One Big Bass prize is awarded per hour on Days 1 and 2.
    • Two Big Bass prizes are awarded per hour on Day 3.
    • Hourly Big Bass prizes are $100 except for the Golden Hour—the first hour of each day—when they are $200.
    • The same Competitor can win multiple hourly Big Bass prizes—even two per hour on Day 3.
    • Daily Big Bass winners on Day 1 and Day 2 receive $1,000.
    • On Day 3 the top three receive cash awards: $3,000 for First, $2,000 for Second, and $1,000 for Third
    • Another $4,000 will be awarded for the Overall Event Biggest Bass—the highest-scored photo by a Big Bass Brawl Competitor of the entire 3-day Championship period.

  25. Red River KBF Big Bass Brawl Bonus — the highest- and second highest-scoring photos of bass caught by KBF Big Bass Brawl Competitors from the Red River over the course of the three day event will be awarded a $1,500 bonus for highest score and a $1,000 bonus for second highest.
  26. Early Bird Cash Prizes
    • Day 1: On Thursday, March 8, the highest ranking Day 1 competitor who registered and paid his KBFNC entry fee by November 1 wins $5,000.
    • Mustad & FishUSA: Another benefit to those who registered by November 1: Mustad Mystery Bass. A $1,000 Fish USA Gift Card, redeemable for Mustad, NRS and YakAttack products, will be awarded to the competitor with a photo in the NRS Leader Board at the end of Day 1 that is scored closest to a randomly-generated length. Ties are broken by earliest submission time stamp.
    • Day 2: Just looking at the Day 2 submissions, the KBFNC competitor who, on Friday, March 29, has the highest single-day score wins $2,500 on top of any other cash prizes and bonuses.
  27. AOY Points: KBF Angler of the Year points are not awarded at this event.
  28. 2020 KBF National Championship Qualification
    • 2020 KBFNC Qualifications will be awarded to the top 20 Competitors by rank.
    • If Competitor has previously qualified, the award does not roll down.
  29. Cash and Prize Distributions
    • Dispute Period: Within 24 hours after the Tournament Director’s announcement of preliminary results, Competitors may dispute the results. When the Dispute Period has passed and all disputes have been resolved, prizes, bonuses, KBFNC qualifications are finalized and posted on this page. Cash prizes are then distributed via PayPal Funds Transfer using the email address provided by Competitor during event registration.
    • Competitors whose KBF annual winnings are $600 or more will be required to complete, sign, and submit by hand or email an IRS FORM W-9 to KBF Accounting before distribution of prizes and bonuses.
  30. Conditions of Participation: By registering for this KBF-sanctioned event, each competitor affirms he has read, understands, and agrees to abide by KBF Competition Rules, comprised of the rules, terms, conditions, and standards presented in this page and the “KBF Competition Rules Standards,” including a “Waiver and Release of Liability Agreement” and a “Name and Likeness Release.” KBF Rules are authoritative, taking precedence over all information presented in social media, TMS, and other information sources.

Notes

  1. MILITARY QUALIFICATION DEFERMENT—A member of the US or Canadian Military who qualifies to compete in a KBF National Championship may receive orders to deploy at a time that prevents him from participating. His qualification will be deferred to the following year.
  2. LA/TX RECIPROCAL LICENSE AGREEMENT—A reciprocal fishing license agreement between Louisiana and Texas permits anglers with a valid fishing license from either state to fish Caddo Lake.
