Rescheduled Championship Plans

The Marshall County Conventions & Visitor’s Bureau welcomes KBF Members to Lake Guntersville, Alabama for three days of high-stakes competition. The event was originally planned for April 2-4 but has been rescheduled for Wednesday through Friday, October 7-9. The 2020 YakAttack Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship, presented by Torqeedo, is still the top freshwater kayak fishing tournament in the world with the largest payout, most bonuses, and the stiffest national-level competition.

  1. Format: This is a three-day CPR tournament with reduction of field to the top 100 after Day 2. Each competitor’s final score will be determined by adding the total length of the bass by his name on the Event Leader Board at end-of-competition time on Day 1 (Wednesday), Day 2 (Thursday) and Day 3 (Friday). All bass scored must have been caught from eligible water during competition hours and submitted within the time frame permitted by the rules. Up to five (5) bass each day will contribute to the cumulative score.

  5. Eligibility: Competitors in this event must meet the following eligibility requirements:
    • KBF Lifetime Member or a 2019 or 2020 KBF Annual Member during the 2019 calendar year
    • Qualified through KBF-sanctioned competition or KBF Partner awards
    • Registered and completed Entry Fee payment by March 16, 2020 (See Entry Fees, below.)

  6. Entry Fee, Procedures & Deadline
    • Sign up and pay the KBFNC Entry Fee through the TourneyX Tournament Management System. [Register]
      • Entry Fee through 12/31/2019 was $300
      • Entry Fee from 1/1/2020 through 9/18/20 is $400 (or whatever refund was earlier received)

    • KBFNC Competitors may also compete in an optional, concurrent 3-day KBF Big Bass Brawl. To enter, pay the $100 KBF BONUS BUCKS KBFNC/Big Bass Brawl registration fee by selecting KBF BONUS BUCKS-KBFNC in the KBF Online Store.
  7. Entry Fee Refunds: Due to circumstances beyond our control KBF is offering 2020 KBFNC Entry Fee refunds until Midnight on September 18, 2020. Please complete the Withdraw & Refund Form and your refund will be processed. Registrants have four options:
    1. Withdraw from the event and receive a full refund (minus a $25 admin fee)
    2. Remain registered for the October 7-9, 2020 KBFNC with no refund.
    3. Roll registration and Entry Fee over to the 2021 KBFNC (procedures for
    4. Registrants who paid Entry Fees of $500 may use the form to request a $100 partial refund, and those who paid $600 may request a $200 partial refund. There will be no administrative fee deducted for partial refunds.

  8. Competitor Event Check-in: All competitors must sign in at the Event HQ Check-in Station between 2 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 1. Check-in will resume following the 6:00 p.m. pre-tournament briefing (Captains Meeting). Late arrivals check-in and briefing will take place at 5;00 a.m. Thursday, April 2. Participants are not eligible for competition until they have checked in and obtained the Identifier Card.

    • Wednesday, October 7, 5:00 a.m.: Pre-tournament Briefing for late arrivals at Tournament HQ.
    • Wednesday, October 7, 6:00 p.m.: Day 1 Post-competitoin Meeting; distribute Day 2 KBF Identifier Cards.
    • Thursday, October 8, 6:00 p.m.: Day 2 Awards Night to announce Top Team Cup Challenge winners and Top 100 advancing to Day 3 KBFNC competition; distribute Day 3 Identifier Cards. Also announce TRAIL and Challenge Series Champions, award prizes, announce 2020 KBF AOY and ROY, recognize regional AOY, and announce the 2021 Dee Zee KBF The TEN roster.

  10. Event Identifier Card: KBF will distribute unique event Identifier Cards for Day 1 Event ID Cards at the Captains Meeting on Tuesday (or at the late arrivals’ meeting Wednesday morning).
  11. Event ID Code
    • Event ID Codes will not be used for the KBF National Championship; instead, unique KBF ID Cards will be distributed for each day.
    • Competitors will receive Thursday’s Event Identifier Card at the Pre-tournament Briefing (Captains Meeting) Wednesday evening or (for late arrivals) on Thursday morning.
    • Day 2 Event Identifier Cards will be distributed at the Thursday Captains Meeting.
    • Day 3 Event Identifier Card will be distributed to the Top 100 at the Friday Captains Meeting.
    • On Day 3, Competitors outside of the Top 100 cut may still compete in the Big Bass Brawl and will be provided with standard KBF Identifier Cards and a three-character Event ID Code. Top 100 Identifier Cards will also count for the Big Bass Brawl.
    • Every photo must include the correct day’s KBF Identifier Card (and Event ID Code, for Day 3 Competitors fishing the Big Bass Brawl only).
  12. Eligible Water and Boundaries: Eligible water for all three days of competition will include all of Lake Guntersville from Nickajack Dam (in Tennessee) to the Guntersville Dam (in Alabama), including any backwaters, bays, creeks and sloughs contiguous to those lakes and river, provided the Competitor is able to access the area from the main bodies of water by floating to/from it in his watercraft. They may not be separated from the main body of water by a dam, levee, bar, reef, berm, other land form. Portaging is allowed ONLY to
    (a.) exit an area into which one has floated and that afterwards becomes isolated by a rapid drop in river or lake level or
    (b.) bypass a temporary obstruction, such as a downed tree across a creek.
    Propulsion is not an “eligible water” issue. Floating and pulling oneself by hand across a weed-choked swamp to reach backwaters on the other side is permissible.
  13. Competition Hours: Sunrise in Guntersville on April 3 will be at 6:30 A.M. CDT. Competition start times were established as approximately a half-hour before sunrise. All times below are Central Daylight Time (CDT).

  14. Minimum Length: 12 inches is the minimum length of bass eligible for scoring in this event. Photos must include competitor’s best attempt at bass length; photos of bass of lengths under 12″ will be denied.
  15. Manual Submission of Digital Photos
    • Competitors should attempt to submit digital photos directly to TourneyX via web browser or app on a smart phone.
    • Competitors unable to upload photos directly to Tourney X must be in the Tournament HQ Photo Upload line no later than 3:00 P.M. on Competition Days.
    • For manual upload, Competitor must surrender to Tournament Staff his smart phone or camera and USB cable, which will be made available after uploading for retrieval by Competitors. (Note: Photo selection and upload is expedited, and risk of losing family photos is mitigated, if Competitor uses a camera memory card that has only Competition photos.)
  16. Scoring: Event ranking will be determined by the score (length) of all photos beside each Competitor’s name on the NRS Leader Board when judging and official review have concluded.
  17. Cash Prizes
    • Prize purse distributions are rounded to the nearest dollar amount.
    • 10% of field payout—one cash prize is paid for every ten registrants.
    • The guaranteed first place prize is $50,000. Total amounts and numbers of places paid out will vary with the number of registrations, but roughly one place will pay out for every 10 registrations.
  18. KBF BONUS BUCKS (“KBF BONUS BUCKS,” KBF’s contingency awards program) and the KBFNC Big Bass Brawl have been combined with a single registration fee.
    • Competitors who meet eligibility requirements may win KBF BONUS BUCKS ranging from $100 to $5,000
    • To be eligible, Competitor must enroll in BONUS BUCKS-KBFNC no later than Wednesday 11:59 P.M., April 1, 2020. [Info] {Register]
    • Bonuses are paid in addition to Cash Prizes.
    • Bonus roll-downs will occur in some cases, but possibly at a lower amount. See BONUS BUCKS chart.
    • Sponsors establish BONUS BUCKS eligibility requirements; usually requiring winners to own and use their products.
  19. KBF Big Bass Brawl—All who register for the BONUS BUCKS-KBFNC & Big Bass Brawl are eligible to in hourly big bass prizes.
    • Prizes are based on the scores of photos submitted by Big Bass Brawl Competitors. A 25.25″ bass penalized 1″ for open mouth will be scored 24.25″ and may be beat out in the Brawl by a 24.50″ bass with no deductions.
    • Ties are broken based on upload time stamps.
    • One Big Bass prize is awarded per hour on Days 1 and 2.
    • Two Big Bass prizes are awarded per hour on Day 3.
    • Hourly Big Bass prizes are $100 except for the Golden Hour—the first hour of each day—when they are $200.
    • The same Competitor can win multiple hourly Big Bass prizes—even two per hour on Day 3.
  20. 2020 AOY Points: KBF Angler of the Year points are not awarded at this event.
  21. 2021 KBF National Championship Qualification
    • 2021 KBFNC Qualifications will be awarded to the top 20 Competitors by rank.
    • If Competitor has previously qualified, the award does not roll down.
  22. Cash and Prize Distributions
    • Dispute Period: Within 24 hours after the Tournament Director’s announcement of preliminary results, Competitors may dispute the results. When the Dispute Period has passed and all disputes have been resolved, prizes, bonuses, KBFNC qualifications are finalized and posted on this page. Cash prizes are then distributed via PayPal Funds Transfer using the email address provided by Competitor during event registration.
    • Competitors whose KBF annual winnings are $600 or more will be required to complete, sign, and submit by hand or email an IRS FORM W-9 to KBF Accounting before distribution of prizes and bonuses.
  23. Conditions of Participation: By registering for this KBF-sanctioned event, each competitor affirms he has read, understands, and agrees to abide by KBF Competition Rules, comprised of the rules, terms, conditions, and standards presented in this page and the “KBF Competition Rules Standards,” including a “Waiver and Release of Liability Agreement” and a “Name and Likeness Release.” KBF Rules are authoritative, taking precedence over all information presented in social media, TMS, and other information sources.

Notes

  1. MILITARY QUALIFICATION DEFERMENT—A member of the US or Canadian Military who qualifies to compete in a KBF National Championship may receive orders to deploy at a time that prevents him from participating. His qualification will be deferred to the following year.
  2. All KBF Members who qualified for the 2020 KBFNC and do not participate in the event will automatically qualify for the 2021 KBFNC. Their names will be added to the 2021 KBFNC Qualified Members Roster after September 28—the registration deadline for the 2020 event.
