Kayak Bass Fishing’s 2017 Challenge Series, sponsored by Torqeedo, is a month-long, 5-bass, KBF Member-only CPR (Catch-Photo-Release) competition. This event runs from 8:00 a.m. (local time) on May 1 to 8:00 p.m. (local time) on May 30. Below are competition details and rules specific to this event.

Precedence Statement: Information about this event  on TourneyX and Facebook is for promotion and orientation purposes only, and information on this page takes precedence. This event will be conducted according to the rules, terms, conditions and details specified on the KBF Event Rules Addendum (below) and on the KBF Competition Rules Standards.

NOTE: REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 11:45 PM MAY 1.

KBF Event Rules Addendum

  1. Tournament Director: Joe Haubenreich or Designee
  2. Eligibility:
    • KBF Membership: KBF Membership (either 2017 KBF Annual Membership or KBF Lifetime Membership) is required to sign up for and compete in KBF State Challenges.
    • TourneyX Membership and Registration: By 8:00 p.m. CDT on the evening before the first day of competition, each KBF Member who wishes to participate must (a.) create a TourneyX user account and then (b.) sign up for the event and pay a $21 non-refundable Entry Fee for each KBF State Challenge in which he wishes to compete.
    • Multiple Concurrent State Challenges: Competitors are not restricted to signing up to compete only in their state of residence but may sign up for and compete in as many concurrent KBF State Challenges as they wish, providing they have valid fishing licenses for each state in which they fish. Prize winners must be prepared to submit proof of valid fishing license.
  3. Venue: Nationwide
  4. Eligible Water & Locations
    • Digital photos for any KBF State Challenge may be submitted only for bass caught from public-access waters for which a fishing license from that state (or states, if combined) is required. Competitors in combined states may submit bass caught in either/any of the combined states, providing they have a valid fishing license for the water of the state(s) in which they fish.
    • Bordering States’ Reciprocal Fishing License Agreements: On some state boundary waters, a reciprocal licensing agreement between the bordering states allows anglers with valid fishing licenses issued by one state to legally fish specific waters through which the border passes and sometimes in water well within the neighboring state’s borders. A competitor catching a bass in water covered by such an agreement may submit the same photo of that bass in both State Challenges, assuming he registered for both. For example, the boundary between Louisiana and Texas runs down through Toledo Bend Reservoir. Those two states’ reciprocal license agreement permits anglers with valid fishing license issued by either state to fish from a boat anywhere on Toledo Bend. Therefore, a Competitor fishing the Louisiana KBF State Challenge may submit photos of bass caught in Texas areas of the lake and vice versa. The same photo may also be eligible for submission to other concurrent KBF Special Challenges and Tournaments, if permitted by the rules for those other events.
  5. Species: All Black bass species
  6. Format: This is a month-long CPR (catch-photo-release) tournament where the combined length of up to five (5) bass will contribute to each competitor’s score
  7. Competition Rules: By registering, each competitor acknowledges he has read and agrees to abide by rules and terms contained in the following two documents:
    • The “KBF Competition Rules Standards,” including a “Release and Indemnification Agreement” and a “Copyright and Use of Images Agreement.”
    • The specific rules and restrictions outlined in this “Event Rules Addendum.”
  8. Competition Period
    • Registration Deadline for each event is 11:45 p.m. on May 1.
    • Competition Period is 8:00 a.m. on May 1 through 7:00 p.m. CDT May 31, 2017.
    • Start—Competition begins at 5:00 a.m. on the first day of the Competition Period. You may paddle to your location ahead of time, but no lines in the water before competition start time. Photos of fish caught only after the Competition Start time are acceptable.
    • End—Competition ends at 7 p.m. on the last day of the Competition Period. All photos must be submitted (uploaded) to TourneyX by the Competition End time.
  9. Event Schedule (all times are local. For states with multiple time zones, “local time” is defined in TourneyX settings.)
    • 5/1, 8:00 a.m.: Competition Start Date and Time. No lines may be in the water, no fish photos may be taken before this time.
    • 5/31, 8:00 p.m.: Competition End Date and Time, and photo submission cut-off time
  10. Identifier: Every photo must include a legible KBF Identifier Form.
    • At 8:00 p.m. the evening before competition starts, a Unique Event ID Code will appear in each competitor’s TourneyX Dashboard. Print that code in the Bottom-Center field (box E).
    • Each KBF Identifier Form has six blocks or “fields,” permitting one Form to serve for up to six concurrent events. If you are already using a KBF Identifier Form for another KBF Challenge or a KBF Tournament, you may use it for this one as well by printing each Unique Event ID Code in it’s specified field.
    • If the Bottom-Center field (box E) is already in use, you may print your code in an adjacent box.
  11. Scoring:
    • Rankings will be determined by the cumulative score of each competitor’s five (5) longest bass caught in accordance with the KBF Event Rules Addendum for this event.
    • Rankings will display on the TourneyX LOWRANCE Leader Board throughout competition, until they are hidden around mid-day of the final day. Visibility will be restored after scoring is complete and results have been verified by judges and director. (Note: after competition end time, see results in KBF State Challenge Archived Events on TourneyX.)
    • Ties will be broken by comparing the lengths of each tied competitor’s longest bass, with the decision in favor of the competitor who submitted the longest bass. If the longest bass are identical, then the longer of the second longest bass determines the winner. If the second bass are identical, then their third longest are compared, and if they, too are identical, then the fourth longest are compared with the winner being the competitor with the longest bass.
  12. Prizes
    • The Event Prize Purse is the total of all Entry Fees paid, less $6 from each that is applied to credit card transaction fees, application user fees, and administration fees, the balance being set aside for 100 Challenge Championship. Since the Entry Fee is $21, then the Prize Purse will be the number of registrants multiplied by $15.
    • Cash Payout — one cash prize is paid for every ten registrants. (For 10-19 registrants, one place pays. For 20-29, two places pay. For 30-39, three places pay, etc.)
    • Cash Distributions are made after winners have provided a copy to KBF of a filled-out, signed, and dated IRS W-9 form. Funds will sent to the winners by PayPal Funds Transfer. If a prize or bonus recipient does not have a PayPal account, he may request that KBF mail a company check to the address on his IRS W-9 form. Winners are responsible for payment of all state and federal income taxes.
  13. KBF 2017 Angler of the Year (“AOY”) Points
    • AOY points will be awarded to all Active Participants in this event, from a maximum of 100 Points down to 20 in increments of no more than three (3), with each angler’s ranking determined by his score. KBF AOY points from this event will be categorized as  “Challenges” Points on the KBF AOY Points chart.
    • To be considered an Active Competitor, one must upload a photo of a bass that meets scoring standards or, if none were caught, a photo that meets all photo requirements except that the Hawg Trough is empty, with a score submitted as 0.00″
Note: we recommend you take such a photo and upload it at start-of-competition time to not only ensure you qualify for the minimum Participation Points but also that you have your Hawg Trough, KBF Identifier Form, and a working camera and are able to upload photos. Any remaining 0.00″ submissions will be removed by judges after AOY Points have been tabulated so they do not negatively impact Competitors’ TourneyX Profile stats.
    • Registrants who do not compete, or who fail to upload the required “0.00-score” photo of an empty Hawg Trough, will be awarded 10 Registration Points.
  14. KBF National Championship Qualifying Slots will be awarded to 5% of the field, with a minimum of one (1) slot awarded for 10-19 registrants, two (2) for 20-39, 3 for 40-59, etc.. If a KBF-NC slot is awarded to a competitor who has previously qualified, then the slot rolls down to the highest-ranking alternate who has not yet qualified.
  15. BONUS BUCKS: In addition to cash prizes, up to three bonuses of $60, $40, and $20 will be awarded to 2017 KBF BONUS BUCKS Program participants if they take First, Second, and Third places in competition. (For example, if First Place is taken by a competitor who is in KBF-BB, he gets $60 on top of his other winnings.) Note: To be eligible to win a bonus, the KBF-BB participant must have enrolled by start-of-competition and achieve a top-three finish.
