It has been four years since the Realtree Fishing KBF TRAIL Series powered by Dakota Lithium held a tournament on Lake Murray. That event concluded a period during which every visit to Santee-Cooper produced a memorable outcome. The history of Kayak Bass Fishing runs long and deep on Lakes Marion and Moultrie. It includes:

  • In February of 2020, North Carolina angler Marcus Smith beat a tough field on a cold, windy day to take his first Kayak Bass Fishing TRAIL Series victory.
  • In 2019, a young angler named Dylan Fuqua won the old KBF Pro Series, and placed second overall, announcing a youth revolution in the sport.
  • In October of 2017, South Carolina’s own Jason Broach won the TRAIL event, on his way to capping off a year that made him one of the top anglers in the sport.

On May 18-19, 2024. Kayak Bass Fishing will open a new chapter in its long history on the Santee-Cooper lakes. Where previous events were held late in the year or in the pre-spawn, KBF will fish Santee at the peak of the early summer bite. It should be an amazing tournament, so get registered and ready!

MAYhem and Rogue Gear Co. AOY Race

After strong showings at Lake Murray and Guntersville, Tim Isaacs is the current leader in the KBF TRAIL Series Angler of the Year points race. A stacked field of competitors led by Jody Queen fills out the top ten, while a host of anglers remain in striking distance. With the Realtree Fishing KBF TRAIL Series having a more compact and accessible geographic range in 2024, the Angler of the Year and Rookie of the Year races remain wide open. Santee Cooper will help sort the top Ten leading up to the last event at Chickamauga in early June.

May is also when qualification for the KBF TRAIL Series Championship doubles. At Santee-Cooper, the top 50% of the field will qualify for the Championships, to be held at Huntsville, AL in October. The unique qualifying opportunities presented by MAYhem are explained here.
