Four big lakes. Eight big trophies.

And one grand finale.

The Realtree Fishing KBF TRAIL Series powered by Dakota Lithium returns in 2024 with a more compact tournament range and a new championship format! This year, the series heads to four of the most famous bass fisheries on the planet for a total of eight single day tournaments. Before it ends, KBF TRAIL Series competitors will reconvene in Huntsville, AL for a championship round in October, with Angler of the Year, Rookie of the Year and a place in KBF The TEN on the line!

Additionally, KBF’s Challenge Series portfolio expands with the new Challenge Series events introduced in 2023, so that every KBF TRAIL offers multiple opportunities for qualification and competition. From the novice angler to the seasoned pro, Kayak Bass Fishing has set up 2024 to optimize opportunity for the KBF community at every skill level.

When and Where

Started in 2016, the KBF TRAIL Series enters its ninth season in 2024 and it remains the highest level of competition on the KBF calendar. This season, KBF TRAIL events are located on the best fisheries across the southeastern U.S., and at prime time, too, for optimal seasonal bites! The lakes and dates of the KBF TRAIL Series are below, followed by the coordinated championships:

  1. The 2024 Kayak Bass Fishing National Championship, Lake Guntersville (April 6-7, 2024)
  2. The 2024 Realtree Fishing KBF TRAIL Series Championship Huntsville, AL (Oct. 10-12, 2024)

2023 presented anglers with a scaled down tournament series, and 2024 continues that model, with an even more compact geographical radius. In doing so, KBF has emphasized premium fisheries that are within reasonable driving distances from each other.

  • The 2024 KBF TRAIL Series begins on Lake Murray, a fishery that has become a favorite stop now, four years and running! Last season, Casey Reed and Ryan Matylewicz won the weekend events, where some big limits were caught!
  • The 2023 KBF returns to Guntersville in the spring for the first time since 2022.The bonus? The Trail Series event is held alongside the KBF National Championship, which renews for its eight edition!
  • KBF has not fished Santee Cooper since Carolina angler Marcus Smith won there against a big field in early 2020. We are heading back!
  • Youth was the theme at the KBF Trail on Chickamauga in 2023, as Jaxton Orr and Wyatt Hammond swept the weekend tournaments. Will youth prevail again on this rejuvenated fishery?

Also for anglers to note: the KBF Challenge Series presented by Ketch Products will hold a separate edition of the TEN in 2024, for Challenge Series Championship anglers only, so there will be two versions of KBF The TEN in 2024.

North Carolina angler Eric Nelson qualified for KBF The TEN at Guntersville in 2023 after finishing in 9th place overall after the Trail Series Championship. Looking forward to 2024, he told KBF: “I like the idea of separating the two format championships, so the top anglers who competed by traveling are ranked  with like anglers, and the same for the anglers who fish the state wide (Challenge Series) events.”

Referring to KBF the TEN, Nelson added: “The separate, off-limits lake for the TEN was a great challenge to see who could read the water and figure out patterns on the fly. It was a true test of angler knowledge and skill.”

Looking Ahead

2023 saw a number of great finishes. They included Rogue Gear Co Rookie of the Year Wyatt Hammond also winning the Angler of the Year title and California angler Rachel M. Uribe becoming the first woman to stand atop the KBF Trail points standings at the end of the regular season. Additionally, we were all reminded of the legend in our midst when Rus Snyders became the first KBF competitor to repeat as champ of KBF The TEN.
